Clovis Henri Gauguin is the great grandson of the French painter Paul Gauguin, and was educated as a silversmith from the famous Silversmith Georg Jensen in Copenhagen in 1969 with a medal of honor. From 1970 - 1972 he traveled across Europe with an English Rock and Roll band called Oceania as guitar player.

Moving to the Countryside in 1976 were he currently resides, originally inspired him to start painting oil on canvas. "I See my paintings as music and the colors as notes and the canvas as the sheet, and the final painting as a piece of music".

His post impresssionist style reflects his heritage while his brilliant use of colors, contrast and abstract themes distinguishes his unique and original oil paintings from his great grandfather's work.

Clovis says his main inspiration for painting is the music, especially the music of the Grateful Dead. As a true Deadhead since 1970, he loves to create his paintings listening to the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia Band, Bob Weirs Ratdog, amongst others.

At the current time he is working on a new series of paintings inspired by a 3 week visit to the Rain Desert in Connecticut, playing 5 nights with the band Desert Rain. It was here Clovis claims "I met the most fantastic and loveliest people, who all gave me an experience for life, it was as they say Wicked Awsome!". Soon the images created as a result of his "Journey to America" will be available for viewing here.
